Know the Danger Signs

Some problems can wait a day. Others can’t. If you see smoke, smell burning or see sparks, treat it as an emergency.
First, keep people away. If it is safe, turn off the breaker for that area, or the main breaker. Then call for help. If there is fire, call 911 first.
Call right away if you have:
⚡ A burning smell or smoke from an outlet or panel
⚡ Sparks or arcs
⚡ An outlet or switch that is hot to the touch
⚡ Water near outlets or the panel
⚡ A downed power line (call the utility and 911)
⚡ Power out in your home only, with no known reason
See our emergency electrician page, or call 918-553-8800.
Quick Answers
⚡ Is a buzzing outlet an emergency?
It can be. Buzzing often means a loose wire or a bad device. Stop using it and turn off the breaker. Then call.
⚡ What if only half my house has power?
This can mean a problem with a main wire or the service. Turn off big loads and call. It needs to be checked soon.
⚡ Should I call the power company or an electrician?
Call the power company if the whole street is out or a line is down. Call an electrician if the problem is only in your home.
