Electrical Questions, Answered

⚡ Do I need an electrician?

Call a licensed electrician if you notice flickering or dimming lights, breakers that trip often, burning smells, buzzing from the panel, outlets that are warm or discolored, or any sparks. These are warning signs of loose connections, overloaded circuits or failing equipment — not quirks to live with.

⚡ When should I hire an electrician instead of doing it myself?

Any time you are working with wiring, adding circuits, replacing a panel or breaker, installing fixtures on new boxes, or troubleshooting power problems. Electrical work done wrong can cause shocks or fires that don't show up until later, and many jobs require permits and inspections.

⚡ Why does my breaker keep tripping?

Usually it's an overloaded circuit (too many devices on one breaker), a short circuit, a ground fault, or a breaker that's worn out. A breaker that trips immediately after resetting is protecting you — leave it off and call us.

⚡ Why do my lights flicker?

A single flickering bulb is often just the bulb or fixture. Flickering in several rooms — especially when large appliances or the AC start — can point to loose connections, an overloaded circuit or a problem at the panel or service. That's worth an inspection.

⚡ Is an electrical panel upgrade worth it?

If your panel is 20–25+ years old, uses fuses, is a recalled brand, or can't support an EV charger, hot tub or new HVAC, an upgrade improves safety, adds capacity and can increase your home's value and insurability.

⚡ Can my panel handle an EV charger?

Many can — but it depends on your panel size and existing loads. Voltex performs a load calculation first. If capacity is tight, options include a properly sized circuit, load management or a panel/service upgrade.

⚡ Do I need whole-home surge protection?

In Oklahoma's lightning-heavy climate, it's smart protection. A panel-mounted surge protector guards HVAC control boards, appliances and electronics on every circuit — something plug-in strips can't do.

⚡ What should I do during an electrical emergency?

If there is fire or heavy smoke, get out and call 911. If it's safe, shut off the affected breaker or the main, stay away from water and downed lines, and call Voltex at 918-553-8800.

⚡ Does Voltex give free estimates?

Yes. Voltex Electric provides free estimates so you understand the scope of work before committing — no obligation.

⚡ How much does an electrician cost?

It depends on the job, the materials and the time required. Voltex uses upfront pricing, so you'll know the price before work begins and you're never surprised by the invoice.
